Global Education Office (GEO) at San Diego State University (SDSU)
is seeking a Global Education Advisor to serve as a bridge between
International Affairs and SDSU's academic colleges. Supervised by
the GEO Director and working closely with the Assistant Director,
this position will provide advising services to SDSU students on
all types of global education programs throughout the entire
advising process, from inquiry through reentry. Additionally, the
Global Education Advisor will assist in marketing global education
opportunities, support program review, and handle risk management
and incident response as needed.Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advising services to SDSU students on global education
program options and support throughout the advising process.
- Work closely with the Assistant Director and other stakeholders
to promote global education opportunities.
- Assist with program review and contribute to marketing and
outreach efforts.
- Support risk management and respond to incidents as
necessary.
- Collaborate with academic colleges and International Affairs to
ensure seamless integration of global education
opportunities.Education and ExperiencePossession of the required
knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the
equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the
student services program areas or in a related field; experience
should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for
further growth. A master's degree in a job-related field may be
substituted for one year of the professional experience.Equivalent
to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the
behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a
job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which
the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge
and abilities explained below may be substituted for the required
education on a year-for-year basis.Key Qualifications
- Working knowledge of issues related to international
educational exchange and study abroad, including pre-departure
orientation, risk management resources; cultural factors impacting
adjustment abroad or upon return home.
- Demonstrated skills in: public speaking; intercultural
communications and cross-cultural relations; interpersonal
communication skills, particularly related to advising students and
interacting with faculty, administrative staff, and parents;
planning, organizing, and designing and implementing study abroad
marketing plans to meet specified goals.
- Strong skills in oral and written communications, critical
thinking, problem solving, program planning, program evaluation and
computer usage.
- Demonstrated ability to relate easily, effectively, and
equitably with students from diverse cultural backgrounds;
collaborate with other staff in program design and production; and
take direction as well as apply self-initiative.Compensation and
BenefitsStarting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed
$5,083 per month.Salary placement is determined by the education,
experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the
position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal
resources.San Diego State University offers a rich benefits package
